Time Simply Flies By.....

I promised before that I would be back before the new year, and gosh, I almost let that slip right by!!! Its hard to believe how quickly each day slips by and before you know it....weeks have gone by without a single post!!!

I have been arting each day in the studio....although, for a while, it felt like everything I touched was simply a disaster.....call it stuck, blocked, or whatever, but I was truly ready to close the door for forever!!!!

Sometimes, I find that having too much completely stiffles me....and my studio was getting way too cluttered with all of my "next great things". So much so that I was finding it very hard to create in there...My lesson learned on that one....Sometimes too much of a good thing is not good at all.

I truly hope that each of you are enjoying special times these days....we are on Christmas break, and well, I am doing my best to make the most of every single second!

Dear Poor and Neglected Blog....

I honestly can't believe that it is December already, and I have let another month slip right by without posting anything new to my blog. I apologize to all of my blog friends out there. I promise that I will make it more of a priority to show up here more often, and share some things. I promise!!

So, Art of the Carolina's came and went in a flash. I always, always, always look so forward to that show. Its like a big family reunion. I think that this was my 9th year going, and I can't get enough of it. The energy, and the eye candy, and just so amazing. I demoed there again this year, and wow!! Just pure bliss! I don't think I even realized how exhausted I was......long, long days that seemed to slip by within minutes. I would get home at9 or 10ish each night, back up at 4:30am, and at the show by 8!!! Gotta love a great art getaway!!!

Somehow, the show leads to Art Overload for me. Maybe its all the eye candy, or all the ideas...or all the products that I just can't wait to try....then, I come back to my studio and want to play with it all at once..

I spent the Thanksgiving holiday clearing out some things in my studio....Oh, thats right, I got myself a Giant easel, and some Ginormous canvases....I will post some pics for you all soon. They both sit (a month later) still pristine...I did sit one of my journals on the easel to dry, so does that count for something.

I sent 2 full boxes of various art supplies to my son's art teacher...I just have a lot of stuff....Does one really need 11 filled watercolor palettes??? Really!! Or, 16 sets of watercolor pencils??? You see where this is going, right...

My clearing out project is still underway, but, I'm getting there. I also got a new "painting table", so I have to make room for it to go in my studio...Clearing out is so very refreshing. Sometimes, too much of a good thing, is not good at all...sometimes.

Anywho, I promise to come back before January rolls around....Promise!

I can hardly believe how quickly this year is flying by! I also can't believe that I have actually kept up with Kate's calendar challenge!

In all of my busy-ness, I decided that it is time too look at the fruits of my labor....am I really accomplishing anything with all of this busy....or, is it just busy...hmmm.

Good Monday morning everyone....
I'm dropping in to show one of my latest journal pages. Getting to the computer has just been tough.

I honestly don't know how things have gotten so busy around here, but I feel like I am always running - here to there. Karate, cheerleading, violin practice....and thats just my daughter. I feel like I live in the car!! In a few weeks though, cheerleading will be over, and I'm looking forward to simpler times.

October has been here....and I'm Late!!

Good Morning blog friends,
It is way past due, but here is my-not even close to being done October calendar, and, its late!!!

My poor calendar is already filled to the brim with "stuff" and I honestly can't figure out how we have gotten so busy. Football season is almost over for my son's school team, which also means that cheerleading is almost over for my daughter as well....which means we can scratch those off of the run like crazy in the evenings list!!

September Already!?!!!

Happy Sunday everyone,

Gosh, first, re-entry is very hard!!! Being back to school has completely zapped me! Notice when I check out...way back in August, I have been busy setting up my classroom, getting lessons prepared, etc... I somehow completely forgot how crazy back to school time is for me -- not to mention getting my own kids ready. And, I have a confession to make...It has been WEEKS since I was able to even get upstairs to my studio and play...no wonder I have been such a grump!!

Anywho, this weekend, my husband took the kids out of town to his family picnic, and gave me a time out! Straight to the studio I went (as soon as they pulled out of the driveway)!!

I have been just messing around...getting re-aquainted with my toys, and just generally enjoying some good old fashioned quiet time. No tv's, MOM's, no sounds...its plain beautiful!!!

So, I'm going to head back up stairs....before I hear car doors slam.

Hello Blog Friends...

I can't believe how fast this week is going...

I was playing in my studio today with some of my color charts and wanted to update my Matisse Paints. Before I even realized it...I had built a paint house!!!

I wish, totally wish that I could say that this was all the paint that I have...totally not even the case....but, I was updating some color charts, to fill in some colors that I'm missing...I know, I know. So, I can't believe that I am posting again, but I got up super early this morning....3 AM!!! And did this page start to finish before leaving at 5am to pick up my kids...(oh yeah,they cried not to come home!!!). I got home a bit ago...so, here goes...

Sometimes, doing what the right thing is so very hard, but its necessary! Its simple, yet, it can be so hard.

Anyway, I'm not sure if I will be posting everyday....but, you can believe, I will be creating something!!! And by the way, does anyone know where those 3 days went????

Day 31....Mission Completion!!!

Happy Sunday Blog Friends!!!

Wow....I can't believe looking back that I have actually managed to complete this challenge....and, fun, oh fun it was.

You all have been such an encouragement to me...and believe me, days into it...I was ready to turn back. There were days, when I just didn't feel like it...but, I did it anyway! To me, that is such a great feeling...to do something anyway!

So....today, I spent the day at Jerrys doing a demo with Passport Journals...and, I treated myself...to a few things....you know, a girl has used a lot of supplies this month!!

Here is my July calendar page all finished up....that was a fast month....

And, here is August ready to go...August for us is Back to School....I can't even believe I'm saying that word already....but, here goes...

Yeah, she doesn't look very happy about heading back either....she just wants to play some more!!!

Day 30...

Hello Blog Friends...

Hope you are having a great day. I am CERTAINLY enjoying my day...

I started out today for a bit in my studio...then, I just had to stop...I started cleaning...had to...just had to get it out of the way...remember, I have put it off all summer long. So, I started with my daughters room, and then headed to my studio. For my studio, I set a timer...only because I only wanted to spend about 2 hours there...

I hate it when I let things get so piled up in there that I get myself so overwhelmed with the cleanup....so, I worked at it for about 2 hours, and although there is so much more to do...I feel good about how its coming along. Luckily, its not so bad that things don't have a "place". So, just putting things away, and bits of paper that have piled up....and, oh the piles..

Well, this is all that I was able to create for the day...

Day 29...

Good Morning Blog Friends...
I hope that you are having a great day so far...its still early, and today holds so many possibilities...
I am kidless today!!!!! So, my head is swarming with things that I could do today....go browse art galleries and museums....meet one of my art buddies....meet one of my stampin friends...get a pedicure...go shopping at Jerrys...so many fun things that could be done...yet, this morning, I am tired!! Thankfully, I'm feeling much better today, but, I stayed up way late after my 9:00 bedtime. Our local minor league baseball team, Durham Bulls, had their Field of Dreams game last night, and the NC Knighthawks were selected!!!!!

So, my son took 1st base and learned some tips from the big guys!!! It was really amazing how much time these guys took with our kiddos...and, they had a blast!

After the game, my kids headed to SC for a weekend getaway with my parents!!!! Thank God for grandparents!! I have 3 - count them with me 3 days of being home alone...and, I'm a happy camper!!!
So, I'm up early, tried to shower away the tiredness...hasn't worked yet - and warming up for my hot date with myscrapbooking supplies...but, as I said...the day has so many possibilities....

So, I hope that you all enjoy your day. I am going to try my best to savor every single second of this one...

There are so many ideas swirling around in my head....I wake up thinking about thngs...and go to bed thinking about more....from scrapbook pages, to quilts, and cards...there are so many....

Ok...I have to let you all in on two of my monsters. These two, can usually take me down without much of a fight....

Now, don't get me wrong...there are many, many other monsters...these two were just the only two that I could get to today. I have to do something different, though...if I am going to get anywhere...I almost thought it was time to call in professional help...we'll see...oh wait...there goes another one of my monsters - procrastination...geez! I had such big plans for today...art, cleaning, art, art...but, after my daughters guitar lessons, I came home, and became one with the couch...something I hardly ever do, but today, it was nice.

Day 24....

Happy Sunday, my blog friends... I hope you guys are all well today.

I spent this afternoon at Jerryartarama...doing a demo with acrylic paints, inks, and rice papers...

Talk about mad science....I could spend all day doing nothing but coloring papers....

Wetting the paper down, then spraying them with inks or painting on a wash of color....then, adding more color...so - much - fun!!!

I also like to sit different pieces of wet paper on top of others and allow different colors to bleed onto other papers...like the one in the top photo.

So...I enjoyed my daygetting good and messy in my favorite art store....my hands are still multi-colored to prove it!!!

Day 23.....

Today, I made an honest effort to get busy cleaning....no, not in my studio, but in my home....
You see, my house has been ignored for a while...which I totally fine with, but then, there is only so much ignoring a person can do before I end up calling the health department in myself...
Well, it was going pretty good, until I took a bit of a break and on a quick trip to my studio...I found these....

A 72 pack of watercolor pencils....oh, the possibilities are ENDLESS!!! Lets just say, the house can wait!!!
I don't know why I have such a giant "affection" for watercolor pencils....I just can't explain it! So, I spent the day trying my absolute best to wear these puppies down!!!

I just colored around with them, then added some spray inks and let them drip....

You guys have the best day ever!!!

Day 22....

Today was honestly a blur...honestly. Luckily, I carry my art bag with me everywhere or else today would have been a wash!

While waiting for my son....I created this in my little journal that I carry in my purse...Thank goodness for travel watercolor sets!!! Because I haven't even made it upstairs to my studio all day!!!

Lesson learned on this one.....I can create something...anywhere....using what I have on hand....

Day 21...

Was a complete blur!!!

and honestly, this was all that I got done today...well at least worth showing. There are several other things...up there...that are in different stages, but, I just started a gratitude page - which will become a list..

It all started after I grounded my kids today - oh yeah...I went there...they were sent to their rooms.....and for the first time in a very long time....it was quiet....no tv....no yelling....just beautiful silence...made me realize how grateful I am for quiet!!!

So, that is how our day went...hope yours was a bit more productive.

Its all about Soul Restoration around here....and today, I started my journal for SR2.....I still have a lot of work to do on it, but its a start....not really sure if I'm ok with it just yet, but its a start....and, I've been working harder on the inside of it, so I guess thats a bit more important....right???

Anywho, today was a good day all around. I feel that although I was a bit scattered, and the day flew by, I accomplished a good deal!!!

Day 19...

Hi Everyone...

I hope you are having a great day.

Back in May, I signed up for Soul Restoration with Melody Ross, and well, Holy Smokes Batman...it was Awesome!!! I truly had an amazing experience with the entire course....and actually worked through the course!

Well, ok, not exactly, because I was so gung ho about getting started, that I failed to actually "decorate" the front cover of my journal...so, that was first on my list this morning.

After I finished the course, Soul Restoration 2 started...and, well, you know me....I quickly signed up. So, second on my list this morning was to work on my journal cover for that....well...lets just say my art time was cut a bit short....and, after guitar lessons, an orthopaedic appointment, (hand stand gone wrong with my daughter)Dr. visit, then to the hospital for xrays, Tae Kwon Do for testing - yeah, she broke wood with the same foot that took us to the doctors office in the first place....can a girl get a break around here!!!

Luckily the Dr called and there is nothing more than a really bad sprain - did I mention that I "PAY" for these gymnastics lessons....so, they are off to vacation bible school, and I headed right back up to the studio where my day started so peacefully!!! I wish some days I could just close the door and live up there....but sigh...this too shall pass.

Day 18....

Today was one of those great kind of days....the kids and I were just hanging out mainly, but I got so much done, and felt so in charge of my day. It dawned on me at around 6:30 this afternoon when the kids left for vacation bible school that I had not been up to my studio ALL day....so, up I went....

I was so very productive up there as well....I managed to get this page started...and to me...done. While I was waiting for different layers to dry, I spent time - picking up. On yesterday, Kathy and I made ourselves a bit of a challenge to get our spaces organized and cleaned by August 22ndish...so, I managed to get a spot on the floor cleared...and worked from about 7-9 and came away with a finished page and 3 bags and a box of trash!!! Its that bad up there!

Welp...hope you enjoyed your day. I sure did...and I am completely grateful for do-overs!

Day 17....

When the school bell rang for the last time back in June....the summer held so much "Art" promise....I imagined days and days and days of uninterrupted art time, because, well, what else would I do with my vacation time...
I signed up for a "few" online classes, and realized that I was quickly in way over my head...because, that uninterrupted art time was such a fantasy...you see, I have little people around here...with very big agendas...and it seems every single day, we are in the car, heading somewhere....jeez...I wish there were two of me....

Also, as you might imagine...all this art play that I have been doing has left my studio space, well...lets just say, it's TRASHED!!! Really, really bad! Out of my entire studio space, I have about a work space the size of a postage stamp to work on....and a tiny path that can get me to my table....it is horrible!! My dear friend Paper Pumpkin and I had ourselves a good laugh today and decided we would do something about it....so, I will also begin a major cleanup project in there as well...wish me luck on that one!!!

Day 16...

Not much art to report today....we got up early...and....um...I cleaned (sigh). One of those cleanings where you make a complete and total mess kind of cleaning...It was aweful, but so necessary. So, today, my art was cut short but I did manage to get something started before we all jumped into a team clean session...gosh, that was painful!!!

Lets hope tomorrow will be a bit more artful!!!

Day 14....I am Tired!!

Its been a long day around here...very long. I feel like I spend all of my time in the car...driving my kids here, there - everywhere...when all I really want to do is go home and play! My friend Randi suggested that I get my daughter a chauffer....I'm totally starting to think of that as an option! I don't know how our schedules get so slammed all of a sudden, but they do...

Anywho...I managed to get some time in the studio this morning...thank goodness I wake up super early still or there would really be no "me" time....Enjoy!

Day 13...A Few Things...and a Great Mail Day!!!

Hi Blog Friends!
It's Day 13 here at my little place of art, and...if I may, I'd like a do-over...
I posted this yesterday and decided to revisit it after playing around with my watercolors this morning...and added the little swatches of color....

Now...onto Day 13 for real....I ran across notes that I took in church and this was at the top of my notes...WOW!!!!

Today, I got a few packages in the mail...some books from Amazon....
This is the one that I'm currently reading....Fabulous!!! I totally want to learn to draw even more now. This is such a great book...and I have always wanted to do this type of thing..where I no longer use images or stamps for expression (since I can't draw)....I'll get there!!! You'll see!

AND!!!! I got Kate's DVD set as well.... Holy Smokes Batman!!! This is beyond words so far!!! I started watching the first dvd and had to pause it and send her an email!!! Jeez....this is good! Its like you are sitting there with her...she is such a natural - so relaxed...and such great ideas that I've never even thought of!!! And...she totally makes me want - really, really want those spray inks and paints that she uses...I think they are Dylusions!! All I know is that they look so fabulous!!!

I will be busy, busy, busy for quite some time with my newest treasures....I am so very blessed that I have art in my life...I tell ya...its pure sanity for me. I will never ever be bored...and I love it!!

Day 12...Searching...

For Color...

Happy Tuesday Bloggers!

I hope that you are all having a fantastic day! I am...although, around here, its always busy!

I have been looking back over my posts and it seems I'm in a serious color freeze....I'm always reaching for the same color combinations...blue/green....reds/oranges....I need some new color choices. Believe me...I have so many tubes of paints to choose from, but I always reach for the same ones...no matter how different the page begins...it always ends up being these same colors...

Lets hope tomorrow brings something different!

While waiting for my daughter's guitar lesson...another thing to add to our full summer plate...but the guitar is so stinkin' cute!! Anywho, while she was in her lesson, I pulled out my sketchbook to make notes of all the ramblings going on in my head...and decided to add a bit of color to my "to do" list for today...

On a side note....there are soooo many online classes going on...I just wish there was more time in a day to take them all....right now though...I'm in way too deep!

I hope that you are all enjoying your Sunday....today seemed to zoom by and I looked at the clock in horror that it was already 9pm....where does the time seem to go...

One that I am loving about my challenge is that I am using so many supplies that I have not touched in such a long time...and learning a lot about what these different supplies will do in my journals....those glimmer mists that I had to have are not getting used...those sets and sets and sets of watercolor pencils and paints...all kinds of stuff that had not been touched are getting off the shelves and into my journals...I love it!!!

Day 9....almost slipped by...

I got up early this morning...headed off to the studio, then my sister came into town, and we headed out for a day of shopping...if you know me, unless the shopping involves digging around an old junk or antique store...or, an art supply store, I'm not remotely interested!

It dawned on me as we were walking in the door after what seemed like hours and hours and hours of walking through the mall, that I had not yet posted today...

Day 8....

I hope you all are enjoying your Friday. Around here, there have already been storms today....I love thunder storms...just kinda soothes me...weird, I know, but I love them most when I am at home...love the rain and the sound of thunder...

Today, there was much to do around here...my son heads away next week to camp, so there was laundry and packing and so much more, and you know what I did instead.....took a NAP!!! Fabulous!!! Had to get myself refreshed for my hot date tonight - with my pictures and tape runners and my scrapbooking BFF Julie!!

I hope that you all have a great - and creative day....I sure did today...art, thunderstorms, a nap, and next scrapbooking all night...jeez...doesn't get any better than this!!!

Day 7....A Bad, Bad Drawing..

I try...really, really hard to draw, and I'll admit, I am lousy at it...why, because I don't do it often enough to get better...
so, I have been trying to do it every day as well...this only started a few days ago...so, here goes....the bird was one that I did on yesterday, and this morning, I tried to draw my watercolor set that was sitting on my desk...

This girl needs a lot more practice....

Day 6....Almost Slipped by Me!!!

Hi Everyone,

Today flew by...I caught snippets of time in my studio, but for me, its the posting that just seems to get away from me.

Todays journal page is another rule for me....that I HAVE to plan my day...just have to....I realized that I was just wandering aimlessly, and wondering where all the time would get to...no plan for me means absolutely nothing done...zilch! We will see how well that goes :)

Day 5...

Ok...first, I can't believe that I have actually posted to my blog every day for 5 straight days....I usually go to my studio every day, but its the posting that seems to get lost.
Each day though, I have been really looking forward to getting up there and working to get something - anything started...
Today is my lame attempt at drawing...its supposed to be a fence :( . I have been practicing my drawing somewhat this summer, so, it will be getting there...one day.

I also realized that the writing didn't show up as well in my scan...it says Get off the fence and get into the Game! That's a lesson learned in "values"

Day 4....

It was another day of up early and heading off to a baseball game...enough already, I say....

I caught a few snippets of time in the studio between our neighborhood picnic...and managed to get these two backgrounds done...

These backgrounds were done on canvas - I know, right!!! I always cringe when it comes to working on a canvas...I don't know why, but I do....but here are my beginnings....

I was playing around with paints, inks, stencils, flexible modeling paste, glass beads, and stamps...pure experimentation and play, and it was oh, so fun!

Not sure of where I will go with these next, but its a start...

Day 3....and its still Early!!!

Good Morning Blog Friends...

I got up early again this morning...and headed off to my little corner of paradise....

Day 3 is done!! Now, to get packed for my demo at Jerry's today!

One thing I have already learned from my 3 day adventure.....I have a LOT of stuff to use!!! Its really sick....no one "really" needs 7 sets of watercolor pencils...really...so, creating everyday will definitely help to use up some of the stuff that I have...

Day 2 of Art Bliss...

It's day 2....and, guess what....I've been in my studio today!!! Even after starting my morning by getting up at 5:30, not for my usual art making fun, but packing it up in the car and heading to Rocky Mount for some steamy baseball playing love!

My son was invited to play with the Raleigh Titans this weekend and he had a blast....if one could have a blast in that kind of weather....his mission, get his brand new - very white pants dirty!! Mission Accomplished.

We got home a bit ago, and after a long shower - and quick nap, I headed straight to my little corner of paradise.....

Day 2 is done! Hope to see you all tomorrow for day 3! Wish me luck!!! I will certainly need it.

It's Day One....

I have been such a serious slacker on my blog for the last few months, and certainly have been a slacker at visiting all of my favorite blogs out there....

I have decided that I wanted to create - everyday for one month....AND, I'm going to blog it...thats right, you heard me...I'm going to create something, anything everday...even if it is one of my very lame attempts at drawing, and it will be here on my blog every day for a month....now this is pretty big for a gal that goes weeks without a simple hello...but I will do my best...

So, here goes with day one...

So...wish me luck....its way after my bed time here....but I was bound and determined not to blow it on the first day....

We have baseball...all weekend long this weekend...even Monday...Jeez...so, I will be arting on the go and it will show up right here tomorrow...oh dear, wish me luck!!

Happy Thursday, Everyone! I hope this post finds you all well.
I have to say, I am ashamed that I have been such a slack, slack, slacker at posting...I was doing so well, then, wham....just a slacker. I will do better, you'll see....
Anywho, June is almost done and here is my proof..

And....I can't believe with a day to spare, I have finished my July calendar page!!

Summer vacation is such bliss for me, because, well, its pure freedom!
We have been away....the Knighthawks baseball team, hit the beach....
A great time was had by all...there was a lot of this....

and, well, more of this....

oh, and yes, there were baseball games, but, well, you know.

Thanks so much for sticking by me as I have been so shamefully slack about blogging. This girl has made a commitment to do better in July.

I hope that you are having a great wrap up to your week. Here its been hectic....yesterday was the LAST DAY of school for our students...which makes this girl very happy. Teachers have another week, but even I can do that!

My May page has been a work in progress....I just wasn't very happy with it, but I worked on it anyway....

Unplugged...

Hello Blog Friends,

Wow!!! I logged on today and could not believe that it has been a month since I have visited my blog. Talk about a vanishing act. Jeez.

I hope that you have all been well....I took a bit (a WHOLE month) of a break from the computer and have been unplugged...and seriously out of the loop for a while.

I have still been in the studio daily and getting down and dirty in my journals....

These pages were created using the new Derwent Inktense Blocks....all I can say is FABULOUS!!! When they hit the shelves in an area near you....run, don't walk....run!!!! They are just like the Inktense pencils, but in block form....and WOW! That is all I can say...WOW!!!!

Anywho, I hope that you all are having a great week so far, and gearing up your plans for the weekend....

Spring Break = Rest and Restoration...

So sorry for slipping away like that....but this gal was in serious need of a break....

Spring Break came and went in a flash, but it was oh so good for the soul! I was in need of a getaway of the mind....and I checked out! I felt that I had had it up to my split ends.... and relaxation was the fix....and so I did plenty of that!

I spent some time in my studio and put together some new collage packs....these have vintage ledger pages, sheet music, dictionary pages, painted papers, so - so many neat things heck......a

whole host of collage goodness.

Each pack is $25 which includes shipping! Can't beat that because these babies are full!

I also made these neat little fortune packets.....each pack has approximately 30 fortunes. The fun part for you is to draw a fortune and use it as a journal prompt, then if you "wanna" glue your fortune right down!!! These little cuties are $5.50 each which also includes shipping!!!

My thoughts on being a dreamer....

I will gladly admit that I am a dreamer.....have been for as long as I can remember, and will probably always will be. My problem is that I dream up all of these "great" ideas...set goals based on these ideas...and, leave it at that. I have realized for quite some time now that great ideas, dreams, and goals require action. That is something that I truly stink at. I have the best intentions of getting around to it, but somehow, never seem to have enough steam to get it done. PLEASE tell me that I am not the only person out there that is like this. I have often thought of getting in touch with a Creativity Coach, but then well, that gets filed away, along with the other ideas that float around. I honestly think that this is the source of so much of my frustrations. I never act on what it is that I really want to do. Welp, I will keep chugging along at it, definitely start writing things down a bit more (and not lose the notebooks that they are written in) I am such a work in progress!!! Until next time, Ophelia

Good morning my blog friends. I hope that you all are having a great weekend.

I woke up early on yesterday....pretty early for a Saturday morning. Why??? Because I felt like a kid on Christmas Eve. I had plans for the day....art plans!!

I got to spend a bit of time with my friend Linda! Linda is a rubberstamping GODDESS! Jeez, she can turn absolute mud into pure gold. I can't even describe her creativity...its just simply amazing! And, her studio...Holy Smokes Batman! Eye candy for the soul!

We played around with inks and resists....talk about sheer heaven! The time just flew by! I haven't seen Linda in years it seems...you know, little people who keep your life out of control! So, spending the morning with Linda was a real treat! Then, it was back to reality with baseball...and when the rain started to pour, I decided enough was enough, and I check out...and headed over to Archivers for a bit of scrapbooking fun!

Here are my fingers this morning....and believe me, I have washed them several - hundred - times!!! Thats called busy art making bliss!!

Anywho, I wanted to share with you a page I did a few days ago....just goofing off...I love these Teesha Moore collage sheets!

Oh well, I'm off...there are papers to grade, and baseball games to attend...

WOW...I'm Late!

Happy Tuesday everyone, I realized last night at about 9pm (just before it was time to say night-night) that I had not done my April calendar page....YIKES!!! I guess since I have not been able to do some blog surfing and have not seen the other pages being posted, that it totally slipped me! I got up this morning and had a go with it.....this page is still a work in progress...but it felt good to just create in that hurried manner.... I am totally a Fall/Winter kind of gal, but something about the birds singing in the mornings lately is just so refreshing to me....so, for April, enjoy the sounds out of your window....and allow them to awaken you soul. I hope you all enjoy your day today. I have to get scootin' here...today is my big observation at school....ugh...me and a room filled with kids is great! Add some adults....and I get the willies! Good Morning Everyone,

I hope you are enjoying your weekend so far. It was quite a windy day on yesterday on the baseball field....but, the kids had fun chasing their hats around!

It has been slow going with my back these days, and I have been doing things a bit different in my art room. I have been digging up old stamps that I haven't used in a while, and playing around with stuff that I had honestly forgotten about!

For this page, I used some stamping, distress inks, embossing powders, and my trusty chalk pastels....it was a lot of fun just using things that I haven't played with in a while....I started this art jounal journey by way of scrapbooking and rubberstamping....and it was great to use some of those things in my journal.

Today, I will be over at Jerrysartarama doing a fun (I hope so!) demo using chalk pastels!! Playing around with chalks in your journals can be so much fun....and, well, since I have them....I might as well wipe the dust off and start using them...right!!!

How Not To Start Your Work Week...

Happy Saturday blog world...

I hope you guys are all having a wonderful start to you weekend...

I wanted to let you know where I have been since I haven't posted in a while... This is a little lesson in how not to start your work week....

On Monday morning just as I was heading out the door for work, it snapped...and ouch, oh ouch it was...my back that is. I don't know what I did wrong and can't even explain it, but out of nowhere, it felt as though I was being stabbed with something...so, I started my work week in bed...flat....and that is where I have been since then. To add insult to injury, my art supplies are up a flight of stairs....now, we're in trouble!!!

I spent a great deal of time watching Youtube videos, and as I have mentioned before RachO113 is incredbile. She does the most amazing mixed media pieces....and has incredible haul (shopping videos) to let you know of where she gets all of her goods!! So, for days, I have been watching YouTube and being delightfully entertained by Rachel...and adding goods to wishlists all over the WORLD!! At one point, I seriously thought I had searched the entire internet....

I think it was Wednesday, I got some journal down and finished some pages that had been started at my demo at Jerrys this past Sunday....

My demo was on color mixing really, and when I get back up to get my workhorse journal, I will show you all of the colors that I was able to create....

I hope you all enjoy the start to your weekend...over here, its still slow going, mainly flat on my back, with a serious case of bed hair!!

Hope you all are wrapping up a wonderful weekend filled with artistic fabulousness! You can certainly guess where my weekend was spent - on a field...surrounded by flying baseballs...but it was good. At least the weather was great!!
So, my friend Jeniffer over at Joyful Arts Studio has a class with the 21 Secrets line of workshops! You may remeber my post with meeting Jeniffer again after many years had passed.

Jeniffer was my first Art Journaling teacher here in Raleigh a while ago....I don't even know how I came upon her as an instructor, but she completely changed the way that I looked at Art Journaling! I realized then and there in her class that this was something I could do...and I have been doing just that since then. She moved away..and we found each other again back in November!

Its That Time AGAIN!!

I can't even believe we are back at it already, but let the long summer of baseball field tours begin. If you know me, I would much rather be at home...but, I find that lately I am starting to enjoy the game.

Our games actually started on yesterday, but, I had to leave early for my demo at Jerry's with Liquitex Acrylic Inks! I can never get enough of playing with these!!

Some Rambling...

Hi everyone...

I wanted to share with you some of my messes this week, and some other things...

This was a page that was started at my demo on this past Sunday at Jerry's...I think I will call it done. I don't know why I'm completely not satisfied with anything that I am doing lately...just feels like a mess...

Here's a page that I started, haven't finished yet, because I'm just not happy with it...so, for now, I will let it go....and revisit some other time.

I played around with doing some watercolor hearts from the class that I was taking online with Gina. She has so many great ideas for working with watercolor paints...something I have been completely obsessed with lately! I'm completely still in the learning stage with this though...you wouldn't think so with the looks of my watercolor paints stash...but I'm learning...

I've been at home with my daughter this week....and just when I thought I was at the breaking point...the door bell rings....hhhmmmm... THANKS JERRY'S!!!

I have been hoarding my gift certificates from the demos that I have been doing and in a weak moment of sheer boredom, I broke, and ordered some things that I have wanted for such a long time. Well, I REALLY want two new watercolor sets..

I warned you that I love watercolors, but these will have to wait...who knew watercolors were so expensive :)

So, I got these instead....still a color fix, right...
some watercolor pencils....

and some colored pencils...

Lets see if some new art supplies can get me going again.....

I was thinking about being in a slump....and one thing that is important is to just show up....I wondered if I was just bored....you know, needing to spice things up a bit.... here's a thought....anyone want to swap some collage/ephemera bits.....you know how sometimes playing with someone else's toys are alot more fun than playing with your own...maybe we can swap paper type things...what you would usually play with in your journals....

Let me know...I'd be happy to do whatever its gonna take to put some life back into my journals...

One more thing....I have been getting my fill of youtube and ustream this week, and wanted to share with you some great art journaling videos that I found....

RachO113 is such an amazing artist...she makes some wonderful things....

And, she has the most amazing haul videos that totally make me want to run out and shop!! Check out this journal page....She even has a ustream channel. Instant inspiration!! It will sink in one day hopefully!!!

Totally Uninspired....

Guess what....I'm in such a funk! Everything I touch lately turns to ruin... its horrible, I say...just horrible. I head up, make a mess of something, then head out. I have tried some blog visits, became completely inspired, headed to the studio, and well, you know what happened.

My daughter has been sick...and we have not been sleeping at all, so that may be what is causing this creative funk...

The bum part is that I have absolutely nothing to share....unless you would like to see the pile of dirty laundry that sits there...the unwashed dishes...my serious case of bed hair...just blah today...I will however try to get back later and share with you someof the things I have been doing.

So, for now, I just thank you....each of you, for your constant inspiration and encouragement...my visits to your blog keep my hope alive!

I did get a bit of playtime in the studio today between cleaning, grading papers, cleaning, laundry, and more cleaning (and honestly, it looks as though I have not done a thing!)

Time to Reconnect...

Today we have been blessed with a delay at school, and I happily spent the time in my studio. It seems lately I have been thinking about friendship...what kind of friend am I...what it takes to be a friend....

I realized that I am not really such a great friend...time just seems to get by, and before long, it has been years and years since I have spoken to the friends out there that I have. It seems that I never have time, or I should say, I don't honestly make the time, to connect anymore. It wouldn't take to long to pick up the phone to say hi, maybe grab a cup of coffee or lunch or something...but time just simply slips by.

I have decided that I will make the time to reconnect, as I have missed out on so many things with my friends...children being born, weddings, etc. I have met so many amazing people in my life, and most of them have been lost to busy days of work, children, well, you know....
Childhood friends, sorority sisters from college, friends from days of old....it is time to reconnect...and from this day forward, I will do my best to be a friend.
I realized that in order to have "friends", I have to be one....its time.

Gosh, I don't know about you, but last week was the longest week for me on record! It seemed to take forever to get to Friday, and then in a blur, it was Monday morning again...I just somehow can't seem to keep up!!

I did a demo at Jerry's on Sunday, and it was soo much fun!!! I was working in the Passport journals, and I have to tell you, its been a long time since I have worked in (A) a small journal, and (B) a journal without spiral binding....

So, this page is not finished, but it will get there as I have really enjoyed working in these!

Anywho, I hope that you all have had a great start to your week....I look forward to getting around to some blogs....with papers to grade and planning, its all I can do to just keep up.

Crazy Busy...but still no excuse

Hi Everyone,

It has been crazy, crazy times around here....

For me, the hardest thing about being a teacher is the first day of school, and Monday morning was just that for me.

On last Friday, I bid farewell to my highschoolers, and moved into my new role as a middle school teacher. Monday morning was my first day back at middle school...and it has been a long week so far!!!!

I have been doing little snippets of art thanks to a great class with Gina called No More Excuses. I love how each day we just do little tiny snippets of things that don't take long at all, and you are still very creative...which right now, is exactly what I need.

I have not been able to do my usual blog tour lately, and I can tell you that I really miss the nice dose of inspiration that I get from going to your blogs. I am hoping to get back to regular business this weekend and will be back to your blogs soon!!!!

Just Add Gesso...

Good Monday Blog Friends...

I wanted to share with you what I have been doing with the CretaColor Watermedia set that I showed in my last post....

Literally, with this set, you can have years of play with only the addition of some gesso! I have had such a great time playing around with it.

I made this page using only the set and a few collage bits...its unfinished though...like so many other things around here...laundry, dishes, you get the picture...I'd better get going!

A Great Day for Play...

Its snowy here....and icy....which means a no school day, and for me....a day of playing pleasure!!!

This is my Cretacolor Watermedia set....and Good Golly Miss Molly, this is serious play!!!!! There are aquabriques (watercolors), aquastics (watercolor crayons), and watercolor pencils in this kit...just to name a few of the things....as I said....Good Golly Miss Molly!!

I did the watermedia demo at Jerrys on Sunday, and I just had the best time. Art stores for me are inspiring anyway, and to just be there, playing around for hours is just a tiny slice of heaven for me!!!

I wish that Jerrysartarama.com had insta shipping...where I could point, click, and...instantly products would appear at my front door..... because I just discovered two of my new FAVORITE colors!!!

Sennelier watercolors are just fantastic.....and man, oh man, did they just swoon me in with these colors... Brown Pink....I know, sounds like a strange color combination....but GOOD GOLLY, its beautiful!!!! And, Neutral Tint... I have been mixing like crazy for a few hours now just to see what different colors I can come up with....I'm in LOVE!!!

Look Out World!!!

This gal is going through some changes!

Its almost my birthday, and, well, let the thinking begin. Last night, I had a lightening bolt kind of thought, and, well, there will be some changes happening around here....

I know, I know, I've said it before, but this one is BIG! and believe it or not....I'm ready!

My poor family has to put up with me and my birthday....I start early....89 more days to my birthday....35 more days til my birthday...you get the picture, and yes, I drive them CRAZY! Well, 7 more days until my birthday!!!!!!!! I'm staring down the barrel at 41...gosh, time flies! Turning 40 was great although I didn't really make the most of it as I should have...there were a few things that I left out there, but all in all....I'm happy with the year....but...there is still lots to do..and I always feel that I'm Under Construction, and I see that as a good thing!

I have been thinking for quite time....and, yes, I sometimes think WAY too much for my own good...but, what if I really acted on some of it...how different would my life really look....With that being said....do you know the saying "Create the Life You've Imagined"...Gosh, what if I truly put that in front of me every single day!

Can you imagine how awesome we would be!!

So....last night I was doing some blog looking, and youtubing (it was a snow day...and I had to make the most of it...right??) Totally, and completely inspired definitely, but there was a little bit of something that just made me kind of bummed....you know, that I'll never be as great as...nasty old thinking...

Just be Me is so easy to say, but man, oh man is it hard to live....I'm gonna try though...you'll see

I figured that I had just been up way to late after my bedtime and just wasn't thinking clearly...it was 9pm for heaven sakes! So, I went to my studio, grabbed a few books, and settled in nicely...

If you have ever taken a workshop with Robert Burridge, you will understand why I'm crazy about him! He is such a fantastic artist, and just so incredibly awesome! A few years back, I took his Loosen Up workshop, and because you know me so well, you know that all of my excitement stayed in my seat there in the workshop...somehow, it didn't make it back to my studio with me....I picked up my Loosen Up workshop book last night, and BAM!!! Just like that, it was back! Oh....I could hardly sleep....

This girl wants to be BOLD....BOLD!! You know my issues with canvas..right...I want to break out of the security of my journals and do something BIG and BOLD...

I was asked some time ago why I don't work on canvas, and I only could come up with - I'm too chicken...well, that set me to thinking (see there I go again) but it dawned on me that my journal provides a sense of security, where I can still hide my "work".....I have never really put my art out there...well, here, but never out THERE...definitely too chicken for that....so, my journals stay safely tucked away in my studio for me to enjoy. I want to change that....oh, definitely the journaling EVERY day will continue...that is a ginormous part of me that will never be lost, but I want more!!!! Stay tuned!!!

I have been gifted with an early christmas present as our schools are closed again today.....Christmas vacation begins!!!! My kids and I will get in the car soon and head out to my parents....where I will kiss there little heads, and squeal my tires, so that they can have 5 days of bliss with my parents....and I can enjoy those same 5 days as I please!!!!!!!! YEEEE HAWWWW!!!!

My husband is on call, so we will not be heading there this Christmas as we usually do, and its gonna be a good thing....I think.....or, I'll make it good. Its just so hard to be away from my family during this time, but, we will spend a few days before Christmas with them, then head back home! But...until then, while my kids are enjoying all of the spoiling that only a Granny can give....I will be here playing in my studio....I have play dates planned with some of my firends....LOTS of Christmas shopping to get done....you don't honestly think that I've started anything yet, do you?????and some good ole fashion R&R!!!!

Color, Color, I LOVE Color!!

The weather here is quite dreary....wet, rainy, cold, just plain yuk.

So, I spent the day playing indoors with color. Today, I had another S.T.A.R.T. class, and there was color, color everywhere!!

I love, love, love using these Liquitex inks....not only do I use them in a nib and write with them in my journals, but I have also starting using them in spray bottles!!! Talk about fun!

I love using watercolors in my journals! Like I said....I just love color!

Paints, crayons, and watercolor pencils...oh, my! I can hardly stand it!

Gouache....adds so much more to the fun!

Mary was off to an amazing start in her journal. She has such a great eye for color....gotta love that!!
Regardless of the the weather outside where you are, I hope you make the most of your day!

Rockin' Art Day....With A Magical Ending!!!

Today was my START class at Jerry's and boy, oh boy, was it great! I could not have asked for more than to spend the day art playing with these ladies!

We played, painted, stamped, and got plain messy!

The journal pages these ladies created were just amazing!!!

Then, as I was leaving the store...like a magical ending to a most perfect day....snow!!!

I hope that you all made the most of your day....I sure did!!

Visual Journaling Fun!

I hope that you all had the best Thanksgiving holiday. We stayed at home this year and it was so great. My kids enjoyed helping us cook an incredible meal (that we all ate way too much of). It was so nice spending time with each other and just hanging out. Since we were at home, I had 4 days of studio time where I could just run up whenever an idea hit me, and play for a bit, so that was especially nice.

I am doing a demo at Jerry's this coming Sunday, December 5th with these new Strathmore Visual Journals, so I have been having a great time playing with them. Since the covers are hard, I have also been playing around with impasto gel and modeling compound through a stencil to decorate the cover before I actually begin.

All I Can Say...

Is that I was on a cloud....

Art of the Carolinas was just fabulous!!! Completely and utterly amazing! The entire weekend went in minutes. And, although I was dog tired each day at the end of the day, I was up and out of bed super early for the next day to begin. Oh, the life....

This is Allen Clapp and Michele Theberge and I at the show. Allen was also a demo artist for the weekend, and he is so amazing...and Michele, just ROCKS!!

The weekend went so quickly, and I had the best intentions of taking my camera around to capture some of the action, but...well, that didn't happen. I met so many amazing people...even the designer of the Liquitex Acrylic inks that I LOVE!!! (Next time, I will do better at getting pictures!) Here I am with my very first Art Journaling Teacher....Jeniffer Hutchins....I haven't seen her in years and years!! It was so awesome for us to catchup!!

The event was just so amazing...meeting the manufacturers and brains behind my favorite products!!! I could honestly do this king of thing for the rest of my life....but for now, its back to life....so, I'd better get going..

Busy, Digging, Updates....and a Question....

Since the fairy must be busy elsewhere, I have been digging. In all honesty, it is kind of fun finding all of that stuff that you "had to have" and then it got lost in the new "had to have" stuff. So, digging is good in that regard! What is not so great is when you find oodles and oodles of stuff, and realize that never in a lifetime will you ever be able to use it all is when it becomes shameful ( I know there has to be someone else out there that can join me on this) I found probably 40 or so thick old ledgers, 100s of dictionaries, zillions of old photographs....bins and bins full of stuff!! So, I am to demo sketchbooks....hhhmmm.... I know what I do in my sketchbooks, but I have been challenged to use other sketchbooks as well....and I wanted to try some different things! So, I've been studying up....and each day, I have put a different sketchbook in my purse to just play around in.....YUM! Isn't art amazing where there really is NO pressure, you just get to play around! I am so excited about being able to demo there! I have been going for about 8 years, and I spend so much time learning all that I can fromt he artists there that demo and really share so much with you.....I sure hope that I can inspire someone out there!!! Ok...question time....have you ever starting things with great intentions only to find that you never got back to finishing them....or feel like everything you touch is half done...I drive myself crazy with just spinning my wheels, and going nowhere it seems. I seem lately to not be able to finish anything!!! Just completely overwhelmed! Am I the only one. My to do list is so long I'm completely overwhelmed with it and usually just take a NAP! What do you all do when this type of thing happens...certainly there has to be a way to dig myself out of this craziness and actually get things done. I have been wanting to blog for days now and just haven't even found a second to get to the computer for any length of time...what to do, what to do!!

Whew!!!! If you've been reading with me this long...thanks for sticking in there...sorry for the very, very long post. As you can see, I have been holding this in for a while now!!!

A Quick Hello...

Life seems to get crazier and crazier with each passing day. I'm not even sure of how it happens or what seems to cause it to happen, but its crazy around here.

I found a bit of time to head up to my studio, and realized that the craziness continues there (no, the art fairy has not shown up yet to clean)

While working on something (in my postage stamp table space) I noticed that I had 3 journals lined down my table and had been working in all three....I guess I had gone into a glueing frenzy or something and started one one journal, and when I stepped back, there they all were!!!

Sorry for the poor picture of my cell phone, but the moment had to be captured as it was!

I've Been Playing....

I've been on my sick bed...some kind of nasty cold or something, but I did manage to create in my little journal...

I was digging around in my studio and found these little shipping tags that just begged to be used....the problem....I now want more.... we used to have a scrapbooking store here that sold them, and I can't find them anymore....I want them by the 100s....you know me!!!

I've searched the internet and have only found them in small packages...any suggestions out there....

Here is the latest page from the Art Journal Round Robin I am participating in....

This one was a blast....here theme was tribe....and man, oh man, was I stumped.....

I got a neat little journal a while back that I found on etsy...By Bastiano....I have purchased several of these as he makes them all different ways...and well, you know me.

I love how small it is...as I have never worked on anything smaller than the 9x12 sketchpads that I use...so this has been fun....these little journals are made from recycled envelopes and such and he sews them up and they are just so neat....so, I pulled it out the other day....

I guess I'm kinda addicted to swirls now....still trying to do better on my doodling and such....this page is by no means finished...

Happy Wednesday....and Another Rule...

This week is flying by.....thats a good thing for me!!

I'm not sure that I have intentionally created rules on my pages, but somehow in the midst of creating them, a new rule appears...

Today's rule....Make art for the simple act of making it....because it brings me joy!

I love that I can create in my art journals for no other reason than to create...no pressure for performance, just pure creation and play....aaaahhhhh...that is such a relief! When all other aspects in life require perfection or some type of command performance, its so nice to go to my studio and just play for the act of playing...who cares what I come up with....that to me is just pure BLISS!

More Hotel Art...

I worked a bit more on this page this morning from my weekend "limited supply" art challenge. I am trying to take time and add details/doodles, etc. to my pages...and man oh man does it seem hard to do... I really appreciate the comments from my last post about what you all do...it is nice to know that this is not necessarily done in one sitting!!! Whew!

I'm not sure if it is because I stand as I work (my desk for sitting has...um....pile -o-stuff, and although I have tried to sit before, I always end up standing and going to work....like a mad scientist!

Some Weekend Art...and Another Rule!!

Whenever we pack up to head away for getaways, I always, always take my art supplies with me. The problem is that I can't possibly take all of my supplies with me...sometimes it is a lot of fun making art with only a few supplies, and that is just what I did this weekend.

I took along my small watercolor set, a few Inktense pencils, a few bits of paper, a glue stick, a graphite crayon, and some copic markers that I got....

Talk about fun! This was great as I only had a few stolen moments to actually get some art done, so there was no way that I could manage paints, and all the "Stuff" that I usually bring. I was surprised that I got so much done...limited supplies makes you create with what you have...so it was a challenge in itself.

I also created Rule 2 for myself...

Take some time to Relax...Breathe...

I find that I am often so busy going from here to there, that I never ever take time to slow down and pay attention to the little things around me. I never pay attention to details, and I find that that is usually what is missing in my journals. I jump in, create the page, and quickly move on to the next one...without even adding details...doodles, scribbles, etc. And I remember reading on someone's blog about adding doodles, shading, etc....and I thought how weird it was that I had never done that in my own journals....I shall give it a try....

Dropping In....

Good Morning Blog Friends!!! Dropping in for a quick hello...

Can't believe it has been a week since my last post....I have to do better!!! I really do have the greatest intentions...but, sigh...I just can't seem to get it all done.

I hope that you all are finding your creative spunk in your studios or places around the world...

It has been a rather inspiring week around here as well..

With being back in school, we are struggling to get back into the routine...right now, it is tough..but I know things will settle down.

In the studio, I don't remember if I told you all that I am participating in Erin Kenepp's Journal Round Robin....I know that I have not been posting pictures of the happenings of it all, but today, I finished my pages in Erin's journal....here goes..

This has been soooo much fun! I love the challenge of doing something different....

Some of the journals have themes, and some, you just do your own thing....

I would definitely recommend trying it!

Back to School Day!!!

Good Wednesday Morning...

Where we are, its back to school for all the kiddos.....

My son starting Middle School is seriously about to have a break down...sheer nervousness. I am hoping that he will have a great day!

My daughter will start her first day of kindergarten on Friday....um, look out world!

I am ready to go for my highschoolers this year!

In the studio, I decided that there has to be some ground rules....for art and life...

Rule #1....Lighten up! Stop being so hard on myself! Permission to make ugly art....GRANTED! Permission to fail....GRANTED! That takes a whole lot of pressure off....

I've Been Away...

Hi Blog Friends...
I am so sorry that I let so much time get away between my posts. All good things must come to an end and well, summer vacation is over, and I'm back at work.
I did sneak in a bit of a getaway....

I am completely a beach lover, but this year, we decided to try something a bit different and head to the mountains...oh, how refreshing it was. Something about the solitude and fresh air that sucks me in and makes me want to stay. A great time was had by all.
With that being said, I did pack my art supplies, and never even got them out of the car...so, there is no art to report...I am hoping that will change real soon.
I wanted to thank you all so much just for being my blog family who never gives up on me...even when I take off for weeks!!!!

Happy Saturday...

Good Morning, blog friends!

First, I can't even begin to explain where the time went since my last post. I signed on this morning and was just shocked that its been over a week since I last posted!

So, lets back up for a second to LAST Sunday.....

What do you do when its a 100 degrees outside and feels like 110!!!!!! Welp, you play BASEBALL!

Thats right....for a non-outdoor gal, thats hard for even me to say...but, we had a blast....lots of cold drinks and frozen fruit...and fans and tents, so honestly, it wasn't so bad!

Now, as far as the studio goes...I finally even got to get to the studio around Wednesday...and had to have a bit of a pep-talk....

As you all know, I am the worst at comparing myself....I visit blogs and I'm truly inspired by the art that I see out there, but I also find that I want to try to "make mine like there's"....that only leads to frustration...and I found that I am frustrated because, well, its not really my work...

I also discovered, that although I have some ginormous dreams yet to accomplish, I stop very short each and every time....I don't know if I am just not willing to put in the work that it takes to get there, or if I am a "want everything YESTERDAY kind of gal, and just give up because "it" hasn't happened yet....so, I dream on, and plan more....only to stop short again...

I decided that I am planning my future - again....but for the last time. I am mapping it out, and gonna just dig in...and stay in this time.

So, I'm Jumping In..... "In" to lilfe...."In" to my dreams...."In" to my goals. Just getting off the sidelines of this game...and getting "In".

Much more to come...but for now....its off to yet another blazing weekend of baseball!

A New Love..and Some Beginner's Magic..

Mama is in LOVE!!!

These PanPastels may be old news to some of you, but I have just found them and I am in LOVE!! Have you all tried these ????Oh, my Goodness! I am in love! I played around, and played around, and there is just so much you can do with these.

I did this background by applying color directly on a non-gessoed page. I just smeared it on with their large sized Sofft tool. I used 2 colors (pink and orange) and applied gesso over the top...what a dream!!!

Same with this page, I didn't add collage stuff yet.

Same here...just green and yellow...very, very sorry for the poor scans...but these pastels are so creamy and smooth and go on like butter! Good Golly Miss Molly!

I had a workshop on yesterday morning at Jerry's....Beautiful Beginnings...and beautiful it was! I just love watching people do something, and they are having such a great time with it, that they lose track of time...well, that is what happened here...it was honestly such a great time! Magic was made all over the place!

As always, I'm totally inspired by supplies!!!!

Baseball...all the Time!

And....a story of "separated at birth"

After a very brief break in the baseball action...or the switch from regular season to tournament ball, we are back in the heat of baseball...

My husband followed his dream of creating a team, and I must say, they look good! The best part was that the kids had a blast....

Not to mention how very cute they looked in their uniforms...

Meet....42.....Stephen Staton....affectionately called "Boog" by his mom on the sidelines...oh, he hates it...but, well...thats my job..

My husband Steve and his right hand man Assistant Coach Bill Lowery....these two are truly brothers.....

Ok...here's the story....

Meet Cissy....her husband Bill, is pictured above....

Cissy and I met years back on a soccer field as our kids played on opposing teams. I was just beginning to leave the house again after losing our second son, and I honestly don't know what drew us into each others paths, but we started talking - ok, hugging...sounds strange now, but its true...

We met again a couple of years later on the baseball field - of course- and started talking again...getting close to my birthday, I mentioned that I would be 34 that year, and she said she would too....her birthday, December 24th...well, so is mine- the year 1969. We laughed about it, and fast forward a few years, we met again...our kids playing this time on the same team....as we started the conversation, we were geared up for our Big 4-0 and just started yapping about our birthdays.... I said to her ..that I was born in the small town of Sumter, SC....and her face dropped...Me too she said....we were born the same day, year, town, and hospital, same doctor...we of course called our moms who agreed "I was not there to socialize" ....enough said.

So, here was are...living in small town Creedmoor again after being separated at birth all those years ago....and now, our families are together always! We keep thinking of calling Oprah, or getting tattoos!

What Mama Wants....

Mama Gets....and I got it GOOD!!!!!!

For as long as I can remember, I have been wanting and needing a getaway....and thats exactly what I got. My kids went away this week to camp...my son to Camp Oak Hill, and my daughter to Camp Granny's (my mom & dads)!! Which left me home alone with my studio and art supplies! Life couldn't get any better than that right! I of course got sick and the house was way too quiet. My husband worked constantly, but all in all, it was a good week! I didn't get as much art done as I would have liked, but I got the quiet time that I needed, and my son returned home revived and refreshed. A good time was had by all!!

So, from the studio, I started a new journal...or at least decorated the cover of one that I was working in...

and the inside page....

I did a demo at Jerry's last week on watercolor crayons, pencils, and pastels, and here are a few of the backgrounds that I started....I will get busy finishing these up before I head out to pick up my daughter...

And I even got out of the house and took a cardmaking class at Archivers using those Glimmer Mists and Distress Inks....Good Golly Miss Molly....that started a wildfire...

So here is some play in my journal with a stencil that I have....tons of fun!!!

I have a few more days of play until I pick up my daughter on Sunday....so, I'm off this morning to the flea market...then our first tournament game...YAY more baseball...ugh...then scrapbooking tonight....

Tomorrow I am heading to Jerrys for a demo with Phil Garrett with Golden Paints....I will use every ounce of this time that I have been given!!!!!!!

Here is Christina, getting ready for some serious painting fun...she made the most awesome painting...too bad I was so busy doing um thinking about what I was going to do that I didn't get pictures of it...

And, Sharon, rocking as usual!

Dawn here, making an uber cool book that I won.....which inspired me to try doing some of my own! Thanks Dawn!! We spent so much time talking and catching up with each other which made the day so much more fun!!

And here I am, playing along....trying to come up with something to do!!!

Now for the special part....I'm totally unorganized, and in my packing, I completely forgot one of my canvases...my husband gracious agreed to bring it along, and when he came along with the kids. After grabbing some lunch, my daughter wanted to stay and paint for a bit, so I gave it and oh my!!!!!

She jumped right in started her colors going....I just stood there totally amazed!!!

The special part was that Carissa allowed her to hang her piece in the show for bidding!!!

I was so inspired by her true...well, play. She just jumped right in without a care in the world, and painted. She didn't care what colors she was using or what it might look like in the end...or that yellow and purple could potentially make brown...she just painted away...
Kinda made me wonder why I don't paint that way...you know, with no cares or worries about it...just get in there and do it because I love it....ya know!

My First Attempt...

One of the things that I have wanted to do for quite some time is to learn to make my own journals....so after some serious youtube-ing....I decided to give it a go..

I used some really cool paper on the cover that I found at Jerry's this weekend, and I used some of my hand dyed fabric on the inside....I actually got to whip out my sewing machine and do a bit of stitching around it....so much fun!!

This was a ton of fun...except for the red stains that are on the first signature that I sewed in, and lets just say its not paint!!!OUCH!

At Jerry's Artarama in Raleigh, NC....or next door to Jerry's that is....

Girlfriends......

Last night, I met my friend Patti. We met at our usual Starbucks, got our usual goods, and headed on a joyride....
Over to her new studio

Oh MY GOSH!!! Talk about eye candy GALORE...
Patti has the most ownderful eye for just the right thing....her studio is simply fantastic, and if you could see all of the antique goodness that she has....I just sat on the floor.....in a puddle....and just stared.

The bum part....I was so into staring, that I completely forgot to take out my camera and at least snap a pic of me and my "girlfriend" and her wonderful studio....the second bum is that we only get together about one a year....but that will change!
You ever have one of those friends that when you leave you are on cloud nine....you know, ready to conquer the world. Well, thats how my Patti makes me feel. I feel so inspired, and just uplifted being around her....she really is such a creative artist, and a great, great friend. Its such a shame that we don't get together more often.
Patti....if you're reading this....send me a pic of you!!! and I'll put it up here later!
So, with that being said....get on the phone, and call your special girlfriend(s), tell them just how lucky you are to have them in your life.....and if you can, head out on a joyride of your own.

I am Guilty...

I am very, very guilty of wanting absolutely everything I see...I am the one who says..."you know...if I had this....or that....I could really make some nice art, or a great dinner, or a beautiful quilt" Please tell me I'm not the only one!

Anywho, after a visit over to Kate's blog this morning....(if you clicked the link you'll see why)...

She did some more awesome journal pages and this time, she's got herself some new spray inks.... I immediately thought...you know....and clicked the link......

Hold the phone here...I realized that in that studio of things, I have spray inks...tons of them..but, Kate's (Dyan's) looks so beautiful, and see what she did with them!!! If I just order them, well you know the rest. (And, no, I didn't order them....yet...)

Off to the studio I went, with an idea that is.....I have these Ranger color wash inks from forever ago.....

And some of these little pots of pearl powders....the actual name of them escapes me as I write this...

Mix them together with a bit of distilled water (I have enough science projects going on around here than to have moldy water stuff in my studio...so I use distilled water in things that I mix if I may have them sitting around for a while..

And let the spraying begin!!!!

This was fun and kept me happy for a bit....but I keep going back to the link....

This is the sewing station....which could technically be packed up because I haven't used my machine in um....5 whole years....I really want to sew again though...

Notice land of "stamp" in the background (near the window)....those are the Stampin Up stamps that I have that I rarely use anymore...but one day....I keep my other stamps in various drawers and such near my worktable.

Time to Call in the US Marines.....

So far this summer vacation for me has been fun, fun, fun in my studio....FUN! I looked around this morning and realized that I have done little else.

I'm not even sure of how many square feet my home is...doesn't really matter....what does matter is that every square inch of it is DIRTY! There is so much to do and its quite overwhelming....which is why I usually just give up and head to the studio...that is exactly what I did today...

Since I have been in the studio quite a bit...that space is also, well trashed! But here goes...

This is my work table....it is quite spacious, but once I start working on something, I usually have the space of a postage stamp to work on!

Right next to my work table is my rounder with distress inks and some other ink pads as well as my spray inks on top.

Right above my work table is another rack of ink pads....love some ink pads!

I wish I could say that this is all of the paint I have....

The opposite wall of my worktable...its my bookshelf which is LLLLOOONNGGG...I love it! The top holds these metal drawers that hold all sorts of things....I keep alphabets, eyelets, brads...smaller things....and on top of those...its piled with lots of stuff..

Day Three Is All About Me...

Good Morning Blog friends..

Day 3 of summer vacation and my hands are dirty with paint, and I am loving life! It is way too hot outside for anything....and I'm not an outdoor girl these days anyway....

My daughter has set up a store front right in her room which is across the hall from my studio....she found an old typewriter and is set up for business...she is busy checking out her girls - we keep Build A Bear very busy...she is over there cooking and cleaning, and every so often, I poke my head in her room because her conversations are so real, I really would guess that there are other people in there with her...

I found this prompt over at A Year in the Life of an Art Journal, and I couldn't resist doing a page about..well, Me.

This is such an old photograph...but I still recognize me....it scanned very poorly, but, well, its still me! I was three, with my brand new glasses...dressed up to go somewhere and check out the hair! Problem number 1....I hated being in a dress. Back then, this gal would much rather be in her jean overralls and climbing a tree or playing in a big sand pile and losing my brand new glasses somewhere :)

I wrote all about me all over the page, then just started writing stuffs about me...like the fact that I truly am a worrier...I know its not good, but I am so human about it.
